Whether you want a full wine cellar or a wine cabinet to store and display your wine collection, consulting a design specialist is a good idea. Make sure that your chosen builder has extensive experience and knowledge about the technical requirements in building climate-controlled wine storage facilities.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, a top-notch builder in Vancouver, has proven its expertise in designing high-quality and attractive wine cellars. They have also designed and installed refrigerated wine cabinets with elegant features.

In one of their projects, they created a stylish glass wine cabinet for a home with a lavish interior. It is located on a mountain in West Vancouver with captivating views of the ocean. The homeowners filled their houses with contemporary features. They wanted the back wall of their dining area near the kitchen to be converted into a wine display area.

After a thorough assessment and planning, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars came up with a design that would complement the existing décor of the home and maximize the storage capacity of the space. The custom wine cabinet with a glass front is now an art piece in the dining area of the home.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, our partner in wine cellar construction, completed a recent project where they converted a space located in the entertainment area. The wine room has a unique curve shape, elegant wine racks, and dramatic lighting. All of the features are impressive, and the components are made of high-grade materials. This contemporary custom wine cellar in Vancouver is truly exceptional!

How Blue Grouse Wine Cellars Built a Vancouver Contemporary Custom Wine Cellar with Wow-Worthy Features

A couple had an unenclosed nook with a curved wall, which originally served as a place for relaxation and chatting with friends while sipping a glass of wine. The room had a modern center table and soft couches. Instead of abandoning the space, they decided to transform it into something functional and eye-catching. They contacted Blue Grouse Wine Cellars to help them build a contemporary custom wine cellar in it.

The Blue Grouse team sat down with the homeowners and discussed the details of the design ideas they had in mind. They took measurements and assessed the location of the room. After making a careful assessment of the client’s aesthetic and functional requirements, they started creating 3-dimensional drawings to provide better visualization of the completed contemporary custom wine cellar in Vancouver.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars had fun turning open curved space into an impressive wine display and storage area. They enclosed it in glass and installed elegant wine racks and a wine refrigeration system.

The entry door is the first thing you will see when entering a wine room. In this particular project, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars proposed an insulated glass enclosure to create better insulation properties needed for regulating the conditions inside the climate-controlled wine room. However, the homeowners went for 12-mm single-pane frameless glass because they did not want the look of the thick frame.

The request of the couple did not pose any problem because the single pane frameless glass enclosure is equipped with sealing components. The frameless glass was a Starphire low-iron glass to conceal the green tinge that could be seen around the edges of the glass. A tin mohair low-pile weather stripping was added to seal the tiniest gaps around the door. A u-channel was added to secure the fixed glass panels to the floor, sidelight, and ceiling.

Transforming a space into a stunning wine storage and display area requires knowledge and expertise. In North Shore, Canada, the owners of a beautiful home sought the help of Blue Grouse Wine Cellars to build their modern wine cellar in a small space. Learn the features incorporated into the design to create an elegant appeal.

Building a Modern Home Wine Cellar in North Shore

At Custom Wine Cellars Vancouver, we work with top-notch builders like Blue Grouse Wine Cellars. For many years, they have proven their reliability and expertise in wine cellar design and construction.  In one of their projects in North Shore, they converted a small space into a modern home wine cellar. Space constraints did not hinder the Blue Grouse team from creating an exceptional design.

Assessment and Planning Stage

When the owners chose to work with Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, a careful assessment was made. This process is crucial because it helps the builder to determine the specific needs of the client, tailor the custom wine cellar according to their requirements, and prevent costly modifications later on.

With keen attention to detail, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars gathered all the necessary information necessary for designing the wine room. The room measures 9 feet high, 5 feet wide, and 8 feet high. They created 3-dimensional drawings to provide the owners with better visualization of the completed wine room. The CAD images consist of different elevation views, racking styles, dimensions, and bottle capacities.

The Blue Grouse team submitted their design proposal to the client. Once approved, they started the installation of the modern home wine cellar.

Installing Wine Room Insulation and Vapor Barrier

As experts in wine cellar construction, Custom Wine Cellars Vancouver and Blue Grouse Wine Cellars know the importance of installing the correct insulation. Insulating a wine room will prevent the cold air from escaping the wine cellar and the warm air from interfering with the cooling efficiency of the wine refrigeration system.

A lack of or poor insulation will result in wine storage problems, leading to wine spoilage, breakdown of the cooling unit, and higher energy bills. In this modern home wine cellar, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars had to install glass walls and windows. Therefore, a higher insulation value was required. They insulated the back and sidewalls with R-20 and the ceiling with R-30. They also added a vapor barrier on the warm side of the wine room to separate the warm environment from the cold environment.

In this installation project, the owners wanted a minimalist design. To achieve this, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed metal wine racks from VintageView, one of the leading manufacturers of metal wine storage systems.

These wine racks are designed with a label-forward orientation. With the labels facing out, it would be easier to locate a specific type of wine. On the right wall, you will see single deep, wall-mounted wine racks placed next to each other. These wine racks are perfect for a small wine cellar like this because no floor space is used.

The back wall is the focal point of this modern home wine cellar. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed triple deep wine racks mounted on the top half of the wall, forming a rectangular arch. They added a stemware rack (also from VintageView) at the top section of the arch. It holds the wine glasses upside down.

They applied a Brushed Nickel finish to give the wine racks a lustrous appearance and blend well with the cabinetry. The cabinets consist of five sequoia-style doors that were constructed from Maple with a custom finish. The client’s wine cellar accessories and wood cases can be stored in these cabinets.

Construction of a Unique Residential Custom Wine Cellar in Vancouver, Canada

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, a trusted wine storage contractor, recently completed a construction project in Vancouver, Canada. The client wanted a wine room built in his home. He wanted to store wines and other types of liquor in the structure. The builders used Redwood in creating the wooden racks and shelves. The cooling unit was installed by HVAC professionals from Arctic Metalworks Inc.

The type of wood used in the construction of any wine storage space determines the structure’s durability and aesthetic value. There are various kinds of wood species on the market. Among the most popular materials are Walnut, Pine, Redwood, Sapele, and Mahogany. Coastal Custom Wine Cellars offers wine rooms made from all of these wood types.

The team of expert builders from Coastal, together with the client, decided to use Redwood for the construction of the cellar racks and shelves. Redwood is a good choice because it is one of the most durable wood species used in wine cellar construction. The material is known for having natural oils that help protect it from moisture and mildew. Redwood is a popular choice also because of its aesthetic qualities. The wood has distinct earth tone colors that develop beautifully over time.

Cellar owners can choose to keep their Redwood unstained or unfinished, because the material looks gorgeous even without any stain or finish. But the client in the Vancouver wine room construction project wanted his wooden racks and shelves to be lacquer finished. He consulted the experts from Coastal, and they agreed to apply lacquer on the wood.

It is very important to consult a wine storage specialist regarding the application of stains and finishes on any wood type. Although there are various kinds of finishes on the market, like shellac, polyurethane, lacquer, and varnish, not all of these options are compatible with all wood species.

Lacquer is a popular choice not only because it is durable, but also because it provides an elegant gloss to the wood that it is applied to. The team of builders from Coastal applied a lacquer finish on the cellar’s wooden racks and shelves as per the request of the client. The lacquer made the Redwood’s colors bolder and more enhanced. The client was very pleased with the result.

Coastal Designs Custom Wooden Shelves and Single Bottle Wine Racking

The success of the Vancouver residential cellar construction project was mainly because the client and the builder openly contributed ideas for the design of the structure. It was the client who suggested the installation of the wooden storage cases on commercial rollers. The setup helped the boxes become more accessible to the client. Every time he wanted to get a bottle from the cases, he simply pulled the shelves out by sliding them across the rollers.

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars Vancouver has always prided itself as being one of the best wine cellar specialists not just in Canada, but also in the US completed New Jersey wine cellar. We decided to spotlight this certain project here since it showed how versatile our team is

New Jersey Wine Cellar Before Niche Transformation

This is area for the New Jersey wine cellar before the transformation of niche.

Just how difficult was this particular project for them? Well, the area in question was a small niche that was located in between the client’s dining area and kitchen (pictured here). Now, you would likely think that this space would be a very difficult area to fashion a wine cellar into, and you would be correct about that. However, the client had put so much faith in the team that they willingly committed themselves to finding a solution agreeable to both parties. Below is how they went about it.

Creating a Useful “Niche”

The niche that was between the dining and the kitchen area may appear to be just “there”, with no particular function, but it clearly served a purpose for the client: it housed a mini-cellar cabinet, which meant he was already eyeing the space to house a wine cellar.

After a lengthy consultation with the client on what he was looking for in a wine cellar, the Custom Wine Cellars Vancouver team then took precise measurements that would allow his 632 (and counting) wine bottle collection to fit in such a modest space.
