Modular Wine Racking Project in Surrey, BC

Blue Grouse Wine Cellar recently completed a wine storage solution project in Surrey, BC. In this particular project, the client was a contractor, building a spec home. Since the house is not built for a specific homeowner, the contractor wanted the home to look as good as possible but without spending a lot of money. Modular wine racking was the best solution for them.

What is Modular Wine Racking?

Modular wine racks and stackable wine racks are increasing in popularity these days, because more and more wine collectors are looking for unique and customizable wine storage solutions. The most prominent advantage of using modular wine racks is that clients may pick from unlimited combinations to achieve a design that suits their preference. Moreover, with modular wine racking, wine collectors can easily expand and reconfigure the racking structure to create more storage space for a continually growing wine collection.

Modular wine racks come in various widths, materials and designs. Creating a personalized wine storage solution is easy, because clients simply pair modular wine rack kits of their choice together to meet their specific wine cellar needs. With Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, the modular wine racking systems options available are quite extensive. Clients can assemble basic building blocks, and join them together to create wine racks that are big, small or extravagant.

Blue Grouse Modular Wine Racking Project Design in Surrey, BC

The modular wine racking in the Surrey, BC project had very interesting features that made the whole wine cellar unique and elegant. Here are a few of those features:

1. Archway Feature

The modular racking that Blue Grouse installed in the home in Surrey, BC had a beautiful archway feature. This archway was the one slightly customized feature of the wine cellar. It was included in order to add a little bit of flare to the wine cellar design.

2. Countertop

A countertop feature was added to this cellar so that home owners could have an flat surface area to use to sort out and organize the wine in their collection. In the photo, a wine bottle is placed on the countertop for illustration purposes.

3. Combined Modular Wine Racking

The racking was a combination of modules to create a more interesting design for this wine cellar in Surrey, BC. The racking was 7 feet tall, which is the standard height for all Blue Grouse Modular Wine Racks.

a. Individual Bottle Slots Module

Standard wine racks that could store individual wine bottles were installed in this wine cellar. These wine racks can accommodate standard sized wine bottles, which are commonly the majority of bottles in a wine collection.

b. Diamond Bins Module

Diamond Bin wine rack modules increase storage capacity and can accommodate larger wine bottles. These bins have removable slats. The homeowners can choose to remove these diagonal shelves if they want to increase storage capacity or if they want to fit in some smaller wood cases. Blue Grouse recommends that wine collectors store the same wine bottles in one bin, so that their collection is conveniently organized. Storing the same wine bottles in a single bin can help avoid moving the wines too often. A wine collector will not need to pull a bottle from the bottom, which can make things more difficult.

4. Display Row

This beautiful wine cellar in Canada also had a display row included. Once the combination modules were stuck together, the area in the middle that connected all of them became the display row. The display row tilts the bottles at a 15 degree angle. This elevation is adequate to keep the corks moist, while allowing the wine labels to be more visible.

5. Wine Cellar Lighting

One of the additional features that makes this wine cellar beautiful is the rope lighting included that starts inside the archway and carries on through the display row, right across the middle of the wine cellar. Blue Grouse recommends that an electrical receptacle be provided by the homeowners for the lighting, and that a switch is installed, too, so that they can easily turn the lights on and off as needed.

The contractor in the Surrey, BC wine cellar project installed a lamp in the wine cellar, as seen in this photo. Ideally, Blue Grouse recommends the use of LED lighting fixtures, because these do not generate a lot of heat, which can otherwise damage wines.

6. Curved Corners

Curved corners were included in this wine cellar project. The wine cellar design is more interesting with curved corners than with corners that meet a 90 degree angle. Also, these curved corners are made of individual bottle slots.

7. Cooling Unit

Blue Grouse included an efficient wine cellar cooling unit in this wine cellar, to provide the ideal conditions for wine storage. The unit was mounted over the wine cellar door, in order to exchange air with the outside of the wine cellar.

All Heart California Redwood as Material for the Wine Racks

The modular wine racks in this wine cellar project were made of All Heart California Redwood. This type of wood is made from the middle part of the Redwood tree. The wood has a consistent reddish color all throughout.
