In one of their projects, they created a stylish glass wine cabinet for a home with a lavish interior. It is located on a mountain in West Vancouver with captivating views of the ocean. The homeowners filled their houses with contemporary features. They wanted the back wall of their dining area near the kitchen to be converted into a wine display area.

After a thorough assessment and planning, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars came up with a design that would complement the existing décor of the home and maximize the storage capacity of the space. The custom wine cabinet with a glass front is now an art piece in the dining area of the home.

Traditional home wine cellars are increasing in demand because of their timeless appeal. We utilize curved lines and architectural details for classic designs.  Some of the common fixtures and accessories found in traditional home wine cellars are vases, chandeliers, wall sconces, wine barrels, and murals.

Wood wine racks are used to create a relaxing atmosphere in wine rooms. The neutral tones of the wood create a warm ambiance and enhance the aesthetic appeal of a space. You may choose kit wine racks or custom wine racks, depending on your needs and preferences.

One of the Traditional Home Wine Cellars Built by Blue Grouse Wine Cellars in a Basement

In one of their projects, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars built a traditional wine cellar in the basement of a home in Vancouver. The owners had a large niche area where they wanted to build a functional wine storage room for their collection using wood wine racks.

The goal of the Blue Grouse team was to create a wine cellar that could accommodate 1,200 bottles. They combined various racking styles to maximize the storage capacity of the wine room.

Upon entering the wine cellar, you will see the peninsula with a waterfall display wine rack cascading from the back wall to the center of the room. This racking displays the bottles in a staircase-like pattern and adds character to the racking system. The end of the peninsula has openings for horizontal storage.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars also incorporated diamond bin loose bottle storage at the bottom section of the three walls and individual racking at the top. The middle section consists of angle display shelves.  Other bottle configurations include label view shelves and a bulkhead display.

Vancouver Basement Wine Cellar Design and Construction

A wine enthusiast decided to create a basement wine cellar in their new home. His collection was growing, so he thought it was an excellent idea to invest in a climate-controlled wine room designed to store wines correctly and display them beautifully.

He sought the help of Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, one of the most reliable builders in Canada. With many years in the wine cellar construction industry, the team has proven their expertise and creativity in building eye-catching custom wine cellars.

Before creating a design proposal, they conducted an assessment to gather important information that would affect the overall functionality and appeal of the wine room. They conducted an on-site visit to check if the basement was a good location for a wine cellar build-out. They also measured the area to be utilized for the project and discussed all of the client’s requirements.

Designing the Vancouver Basement Wine Cellar

After a careful assessment of the owner’s needs, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars started creating 3-dimensional images. These drawings consist of the different wine room elevations, bottle capacities, room dimensions, racking styles, and door design.

The goal was to create a design that would fit 1,200 bottles. Since the client had bottles of various sizes, we tailored the wine storage system to accommodate standard and non-standard bottles. The Blue Grouse team had to build a wall in front to fully enclose the space. The wall panels are made of beeswax walnut wood, the same material used for the racking.

The owner wanted a traditional wine cellar design with wooden wine racks. Different bottle configurations were combined to create a unique wine display and maximize the storage capacity of the wine room. One of the features of this basement wine cellar is the lit bulkhead that lines the top of the wine racks.

Back Wall: the Focal Point of the Basement Wine Cellar

The back wall is the focal point of the Vancouver basement wine cellar. It consists of a peninsula wine rack intended to display the bottles in cascading manner and add character to the residential wine room. This section has bottle openings for storing large-format bottles horizontally. There is a wooden louvered grill cover at the top of it to conceal the evaporator of the wine cooling unit. The wine room looks more elegant without any visible equipment.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars also incorporated individual wine racks and high-reveal display rows on both sides of the waterfall racking. The display rows pitch the bottles at an angle to keep the cork moist. Adding a lighting system above them highlights the bottles beautifully.
