Basement Wine Cellar with Traditional Wood Wine Racks

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars created a mirror racking on the sidewalls, consisting of individual wine racks at the top section and diamond loose bottle storage at the bottom. The only difference is the rectangular bin on the left wall, designed to store a few bottles vertically. Both walls also have angled high-reveal display rows highlighted by LED lighting.

Modern Wine Cellar Door

The door style and materials were perfect for this basement wine cellar built in Vancouver. It is made from glass, framed in solid Walnut wood. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed a thermally-insulated glass panel to prevent condensation from building up inside the wine room. Condensation triggers mold growth and can ruin the wine labels and cork, and worst, contaminate the wines. Mold will also have a negative impact on the structural integrity of the wine racks.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars also insulated the door using weather stripping to seal the edges of the door and prevent air leakage to and from the basement wine cellar.

Insulating the Basement Wine Cellar and Installing the Wine Cellar Cooling System

The basement was initially an ordinary room with a small window and carpeted flooring. It was not ideal for wine room construction. However, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed the correct insulation and vapor barrier before installing the wine cooling system.

Wine Room Insulation and Its Crucial Role in Proper Wine Storage

Refrigerated wine cellars have to be insulated by a professional. Proper wine room insulation plays a vital role in preserving the desirable characteristics of the wines. It helps prevent the cold air from escaping the wine cellar and the warm air from entering.

A lack of or poor insulation will cause extreme temperature fluctuations and varying humidity levels. When this happens, the wine will spoil, resulting in a waste of investment. It will also force your wine refrigeration system to work hard to achieve the ideal environment, causing it to break down or malfunction.

In this basement wine cellar project, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed a WhisperKOOL Extreme 5000TiR wine cellar cooling system. The thermostat is equipped with advanced system protection that alarms to alert the owner of the ideal wine storage conditions that are not met. The upgraded TiR system allows the thermostat to be placed up to 25 feet away from the cooling unit. With a 3-speed fan switch, adjusting the unit’s fan speed is more convenient.
