Contemporary Wine Cellar Vancouver Built in a Unique Space

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, our partner in wine cellar construction, completed a recent project where they converted a space located in the entertainment area. The wine room has a unique curve shape, elegant wine racks, and dramatic lighting. All of the features are impressive, and the components are made of high-grade materials. This contemporary custom wine cellar in Vancouver is truly exceptional!

How Blue Grouse Wine Cellars Built a Vancouver Contemporary Custom Wine Cellar with Wow-Worthy Features

A couple had an unenclosed nook with a curved wall, which originally served as a place for relaxation and chatting with friends while sipping a glass of wine. The room had a modern center table and soft couches. Instead of abandoning the space, they decided to transform it into something functional and eye-catching. They contacted Blue Grouse Wine Cellars to help them build a contemporary custom wine cellar in it.

The Blue Grouse team sat down with the homeowners and discussed the details of the design ideas they had in mind. They took measurements and assessed the location of the room. After making a careful assessment of the client’s aesthetic and functional requirements, they started creating 3-dimensional drawings to provide better visualization of the completed contemporary custom wine cellar in Vancouver.

Stunning and Functional Design for a Vancouver Contemporary Custom Wine Cellar

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars had fun turning open curved space into an impressive wine display and storage area. They enclosed it in glass and installed elegant wine racks and a wine refrigeration system.

The entry door is the first thing you will see when entering a wine room. In this particular project, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars proposed an insulated glass enclosure to create better insulation properties needed for regulating the conditions inside the climate-controlled wine room. However, the homeowners went for 12-mm single-pane frameless glass because they did not want the look of the thick frame.

The request of the couple did not pose any problem because the single pane frameless glass enclosure is equipped with sealing components. The frameless glass was a Starphire low-iron glass to conceal the green tinge that could be seen around the edges of the glass. A tin mohair low-pile weather stripping was added to seal the tiniest gaps around the door. A u-channel was added to secure the fixed glass panels to the floor, sidelight, and ceiling.

Another masterpiece was completed by Blue Grouse Wine Cellars for a wine collector in Vancouver. They transformed a basement into a traditional wine cellar with elegant features. Using wood wine racks, they created a design that will envy anyone who enters the wine room. Learn more about this exceptional project.

Wow-Worthy Traditional Wine Cellar in Vancouver

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars is a top-notch designer and builder of wine rooms. They are one of our partners in wine cellar construction. In one of their recent projects, the client contacted them because he wanted to build a traditional wine cellar in the basement of his new house. He was staying in a condominium where he was storing his win collection in cabinets. He realized he needed a bigger wine storage space for his growing collection, so he decided to convert his basement into a functional wine cellar.

As part of the assessment stage, the Blue Grouse team scheduled an onsite visit to check the location and confirm if the basement was an ideal place to build a refrigerated wine cellar. During the visit, they determined the requirements of the homeowner.

3-Dimensional Design for a Traditional Home Wine Cellar in Vancouver

With keen attention to detail, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars incorporated features into the design, reflecting the client’s aesthetic and functional needs. The 3D rendering helped the client visualize the wine room he wanted to add to his home.

The design package included CAD images showing the measurement of the room, dimensions and styles of the wine racks, and bottle capacities. The layout of the racking was well detailed so he could have a better understanding of how he could organize his prized collection using our design proposal.

Combining Wine Rack Styles to Create an Attractive Wine Display While maximizing Storage Capacity

In this project, the goal was to install a wine storage system that could accommodate 1,200 wine bottles. With their creativity and expertise, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars used various racking systems to achieve the target capacity without compromising the aesthetic appeal of the wine room.

The wine racks occupy the three walls of this traditional wine cellar in Vancouver. The Blue Grouse team included diamond bin loose bottle storage at the bottom section of the walls. They also added a high reveal display row on each wall. These display rows are divided into sections intended to pitch the bottles at an angle to keep the corks moist. There is a bulkhead that was designed to store more bottles horizontally.

Most of the wine racks at the top section consist of bottle openings for storing the bottles individually with the cap facing out. There are label view shelves at the end of the racking on the right wall. They also included a rectangular bin on the right wall to provide a space for highlighting a few bottles.

Transforming a space into a stunning wine storage and display area requires knowledge and expertise. In North Shore, Canada, the owners of a beautiful home sought the help of Blue Grouse Wine Cellars to build their modern wine cellar in a small space. Learn the features incorporated into the design to create an elegant appeal.

Building a Modern Home Wine Cellar in North Shore

At Custom Wine Cellars Vancouver, we work with top-notch builders like Blue Grouse Wine Cellars. For many years, they have proven their reliability and expertise in wine cellar design and construction.  In one of their projects in North Shore, they converted a small space into a modern home wine cellar. Space constraints did not hinder the Blue Grouse team from creating an exceptional design.

Assessment and Planning Stage

When the owners chose to work with Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, a careful assessment was made. This process is crucial because it helps the builder to determine the specific needs of the client, tailor the custom wine cellar according to their requirements, and prevent costly modifications later on.

With keen attention to detail, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars gathered all the necessary information necessary for designing the wine room. The room measures 9 feet high, 5 feet wide, and 8 feet high. They created 3-dimensional drawings to provide the owners with better visualization of the completed wine room. The CAD images consist of different elevation views, racking styles, dimensions, and bottle capacities.

The Blue Grouse team submitted their design proposal to the client. Once approved, they started the installation of the modern home wine cellar.

Installing Wine Room Insulation and Vapor Barrier

As experts in wine cellar construction, Custom Wine Cellars Vancouver and Blue Grouse Wine Cellars know the importance of installing the correct insulation. Insulating a wine room will prevent the cold air from escaping the wine cellar and the warm air from interfering with the cooling efficiency of the wine refrigeration system.

A lack of or poor insulation will result in wine storage problems, leading to wine spoilage, breakdown of the cooling unit, and higher energy bills. In this modern home wine cellar, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars had to install glass walls and windows. Therefore, a higher insulation value was required. They insulated the back and sidewalls with R-20 and the ceiling with R-30. They also added a vapor barrier on the warm side of the wine room to separate the warm environment from the cold environment.

Metal Custom Wine Racks and Wood Cabinetry

In this installation project, the owners wanted a minimalist design. To achieve this, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed metal wine racks from VintageView, one of the leading manufacturers of metal wine storage systems.

These wine racks are designed with a label-forward orientation. With the labels facing out, it would be easier to locate a specific type of wine. On the right wall, you will see single deep, wall-mounted wine racks placed next to each other. These wine racks are perfect for a small wine cellar like this because no floor space is used.

The back wall is the focal point of this modern home wine cellar. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed triple deep wine racks mounted on the top half of the wall, forming a rectangular arch. They added a stemware rack (also from VintageView) at the top section of the arch. It holds the wine glasses upside down.

They applied a Brushed Nickel finish to give the wine racks a lustrous appearance and blend well with the cabinetry. The cabinets consist of five sequoia-style doors that were constructed from Maple with a custom finish. The client’s wine cellar accessories and wood cases can be stored in these cabinets.

In one of their recent projects, they designed a beautiful home wine cellar in Vancouver. The homeowners wanted a traditional design using wood wine racks. The expert builders came up with a wine storage design for 420 bottles, and the end product was impressive!

The room measures 119” W x 43” D x 102” H, is located on the main floor beside the bar area adjacent to the stairs. A design was created based on the assessment conducted by Blue Grouse Wine Cellars.

Wine Rack Features

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed custom wine racks so the client could incorporate features they desire for their wine room. The racking design and material play a significant role in achieving the overall appeal of the wine cellar.

Using Oak for the Racking Material

In this traditional home wine cellar project in Vancouver, the Blue Grouse team installed wood wine racks made from Oak. Wood is known for its timeless appeal and ability to create a warm ambiance and classic touch to wine cellars. It can also blend well with any existing décor. The client’s home has a modern design, but they wanted to have a traditional wine cellar. Wood wine racks look perfect!

Oak is a durable and versatile hardwood known for its unique grain patterns and ability to take stains well. It can withstand high humid conditions in refrigerated wine cellars and is highly resistant to mold and mildew. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars applied the wine racks with a dark brown custom finish to achieve a richer look.

Racking Styles

When designing the wine racks, it is vital to consider the sizes of the bottles intended to be stored in the wine room. In this traditional home wine cellar in Vancouver, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars combined various racking styles to create an exceptional wine display.

Elevation A

Elevation A is the back wall or the wall across the doors. It consists of the longest racking in the wine cellar. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars included individual wine racks on the left and right sections of the wall and angled display rows at the middle of the racking. Below the display rows are diamond wine racks.

They also added a floor-to-ceiling single-deep horizontal display rack at the center of the wall, flanked by quarter-round display shelves. These shelves are intended for displaying stemware, decanters, and other wine accessories and accouterments.

Elevation B

Elevation refers to the right wall of the wine cellar. It consists of individual wine racks at the top section, an angled display row in the middle, and wood case storage bins (with adjustable selves) at the bottom.

Wine Cellar Lighting System, Door, Wall, and Flooring

Installing the proper wine cellar lighting system will illuminate your wine cellar and wine collection effectively. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars installed an LD lighting system above the display rows. The pot lights on the ceiling were installed by our partner in this project.
